Yule refers to pagan feasts during the Germanic winter solstice. They involved the giving of gifts, festive gifts, decorated trees and coloured lights to ward off evil spirits. Live evergreen trees were often brought into homes during a harsh winter as a reminder to the inhabitants that soon their crops would grow again......
